Trying to build visibility from scratch is no joke. It's relentless, it's humbling, and some days it feels like you're shouting into the void.
I even shot my shot with Robbie Williams — tagged him in a new England World Cup song I created with the help of AI. Look, if you don't ask, you don't get. Robbie hasn't responded yet — but the key word there is yet. 👀
The DM Dilemma — Shopify Sales Reps
Here's something I've been sitting with. My DMs are full of people claiming to be from the Shopify community, promising they can drive sales to my store — for a commission, of course.
And look, I get it. I haven't made a sale yet. So when someone promises high figures, part of me thinks… maybe 80% of something is better than 100% of nothing?
But here's where my gut kicks in: if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
A few things worth knowing — Shopify doesn't have an official programme where community members cold-DM store owners promising sales for commission. These are third parties, and while some may be genuine affiliate marketers, others may not deliver what they promise. Before engaging with anyone like this, it's worth asking:
- What exactly are they selling or promoting?
- How do they plan to drive traffic?
- What are the commission terms in writing?
- What happens if they don't deliver?
I'm still weighing it up. But I'm not rushing into anything I'm not sure about.
